What's new in this version: Quip 7.1.1 New: - Locked cells: Anyone with edit access can now lock a cell, range of cells, or an entire sheet from being modified on a spreadsheet. Confidently collaborate on spreadsheets without worrying about your complex formulas or formatting being accidentally modified by team members - New Color Picker: We’ve updated and unified our color picker across all of Quip. You will now see a standard color picker throughout Quip, with many more colors for every color formatting feature - Better printing for Spreadsheets: We’ve made improvements to our printing and export to PDF functionality for full-screen spreadsheets. You can now choose from different page layout and scaling options to fit your printing needs. You can even print all of your spreadsheet content without it getting cut off
Quip 7.0.1 New: Create additional Quip sites for secure partner collaboration (Partner Sites) or non-production testing (Testing Sites): - Admins can now use the Managed Sites feature to enable and manage two key workflows right from the Quip Admin Console. 1) Spin up a Partner Site and provision Quip access for your vendors to collaborate with your employees, and retain ownership and control of all content. 2) If you’re looking for a blank space to test out templates or site configuration options, just create a new Testing Site and provision a few users for testing. And, to help clarify these new types of site relationships, we’ve added two new types of user badges in the app: blue badges represent Partner Site relationships, and green badges represent Testing Site relationships. Check out full details on the admin experience, sharing controls and user badges here. For Quip Enterprise and Quip for Salesforce.
Filter the list of document/folder members by type: - Now when you click the red External badge next to the title of your document or folder, the Share dialog opens and you can click “Manage” to see the full list of who has access. But rather than scrolling through the list to see who is an External member, who is a Partner Site member, and who is a Testing Site member, just use the new dropdown to filter the list by type, so you can easily know the audience of your document.
Capitalize headers your way: - Previously, the smallest headings (H3s) were styled with all uppercase letters. For new documents (created on web; coming soon for apps), you can capitalize them as you’d like. H3s in existing documents will stay capitalized but can be updated per document from Document > Advanced > Uncapitalize Small Headings.
To bold or not to bold (checklist items): - For new documents (created on web; coming soon for apps), checklist items with sub-items will no longer be automatically bolded. You can decide for yourself if you prefer to bold or not to bold.
Working with images: - Images make documents shine. We’ve created a more natural experience to make it easier than ever before to insert, drag, arrange, and resize images in your documents.
Improved accessibility on Spreadsheets: - We’ve made improvements for screenreader users on Spreadsheets. Our latest changes are listed below, but check out our full Accessibility Guide
Quip 5.5.49 - Customize your sidebar buttons: A couple weeks ago, we launched our new customizable sidebar on web. Today, you can also access this feature on your desktop app. As a reminder, here’s what we said about it last time. Ahem: “We all use Quip a little differently, and some of your sidebar buttons probably get used a lot more than other ones do. That’s why we’ve made it possible to customize which ones are in there, and in what order they appear. Just right click on the sidebar (or choose ‘Customize Sidebar’ from the account menu) and uncheck anything you don’t want to see. To reorder, just drag.” - Consistent chat experience: The chat icon has moved up in the sidebar and is now grouped with all the other icons. Also, your chats will now always be in a drawer. Combined with the customizable sidebar feature (see above), you can hide/reposition the chat icon as you wish.
Quip 5.5.47 - Bug fixes and improvements
Quip 5.5.42 - Custom List Numbering. Drag List Items to Rearrange. More ways to add line breaks to spreadsheet cells
Quip 5.5.33 - Bug fixes and improvements
Quip 5.5.29 - Always-present search filters: You no longer need to click “Advanced search” in the search dialogue when you want to refine your results according to who created them, who’s modified them, when you last opened them, when they were created, etc. These options will now show up automatically so that you get better results and do less clicking - Find text within documents on mobile: Tap the blue magnifying glass in the upper right corner to search for text in documents, spreadsheets, slides, or chat when using Quip on your phone - Resize embedded table rows/columns when headers are hidden: Previously, you were unable to resize the rows and columns if the headers of your embedded tables were hidden. Now you can resize things as you please. Just hover your cursor over any column/row break, click, and drag - Improved formula helper in spreadsheets: Maybe you’ve noticed that when you’re entering a formula in a Quip spreadsheet, we display a bit of helpful text that lets you know how to use that formula. We’ve redesigned that helpful text so it’s easier to understand - Redesigned sheet bar: The sheet bar—that’s the bar at the bottom of your spreadsheets where you can add individual worksheets—now extends to the full width of your window. That means you can see more sheet tabs at a time, and you’ll do less scrolling. We’ve also moved the add-sheet button over to the left to make room for this improvement - We moved the comment bubble: To avoid confusion with the document conversation, we moved the toolbar comment button away from the far-right side towards the toolbar
Quip 5.5.25 - Wide content is centered in your document window: *Whenever tables, spreadsheets, and Live Apps are wider than the document they’re embedded in, they’ll center themselves by moving over into the left margin. This is much better looking, and you’ll do much less scrolling - Spreadsheet filters automatically extend when new content is added:* Adding content to a new row directly below a filtered range in a spreadsheet expands the filter to include the new row - Tables in slides: We already support spreadsheets in slides. Now you have the option to add a table—which is a spreadsheet with row and column headers hidden
Quip 5.5.18 - Font colors in documents: *You can finally make text any color you want. Go wild. We’ve also updated the way highlight colors work so that it’s easier to edit highlighted text - Multi-sheet spreadsheets open to the first tab in the sheet selector:* Before this release, if you opened a spreadsheet with multiple sheets, it would always open to the first sheet you created (“Sheet1”). Now it opens to the sheet in the leftmost position of the sheet selector - Tables in documents have headers hidden by default:* When you insert a table into a document, the column and row headers will be hidden unless you decide otherwise. (You can always re-add columns and row headers to your table in the “View” dropdown menu) - Easily add columns to tables with row headers hidden: *Add a column to a table when you type or double-click the right-most gray column. It’s incredibly handy, and now it’s there regardless of whether row headers are shown or hidden. (Bonus factoid: We call that thing a “ghost column.” Spooky) - Right click a sheet to delete it:* We used to have both “Delete Sheet” (which deletes a single sheet within a spreadsheet) and “Delete Spreadsheet” (which deletes the entire spreadsheet) in the same dropdown menu. This was, understandably, confusing to a lot of people. Now if you want to delete a single sheet, right click it in the sheet selector and choose “Delete"

Quip for Mac 5.0 - Updated the Sidebar so you can get more done. It's a darker color so it draws less of your attention when you're focusing on a doc, and can be opened or closed depending on what works best for you. The Sidebar also includes a new History row to access recent work, and can be opened from any document - The “Inbox” is now called “Updates.” You told us it stressed you out, and we don't want that — so now you can take a look at Updates when you need to be updated, and ignore it when you don't. No need for unattainable goals like “inbox zero” here, folks - Checklists are equipped with Reminders so you and your team can things get done on time, and Mentions so everyone knows what they're responsible for. You can use Reminders anywhere: In a spreadsheet, in a meeting agenda, or anyplace else you need to remember something (or make sure someone else remembers something) - Menus for Spreadsheets and Checklists appear with bright colors when you need them. When you're done, they fade away again. Also, they are pretty - Added a search box to every screen, so you can always find whatever you're looking for
